We provide free and impartial advice clinics on the topics
of your choice.
Our pool of advisers provide job seeker support as well as on work issues
such as employment law and cover every aspect of self-employment or setting
up a business, creative support, learning advice, tax and business information
questions. When you make an appointment our staff will discuss your individual
needs and suggest the right adviser for you. If we cannot provide the right
expert to help you or are unable to help you we will refer you to appropriate
free advisers or agencies in the city via our impartial sign posting service.

library. All 39 libraries provide free access to internet computers, software,
job libraries, job seekers information services and Start a Business resources.
Each library meets the needs of its local community with resources consisting
of databases, leaflets, books, local contacts and have learning facilities
available. Five have their own learning centres, others have advice clinics,
homework clubs and other learning activities supported by book and web resources
to aid learning and job hunting.
Business Insight can provide information about any company
for you to help you get that job.
This includes company financials, newspaper reports, locations, market research
and annual reports.
The Creative Insight team provides one to one support for
anyone wanting to work in the creative industries (use link for details).
It manages talks in the community (creative pathways), business support,
IP information, free advice clinics and networking events. It’s “Creativity

Every library in the city provides a job library that has
details about any type of job, what the work is really like, qualifications
needed, pay, etc to let you see where your skills fit best.

We provide seminars, advice and facilities in every library
to help you find work.
Whether you need to look at newspapers, use the IT facilities for web searching
or CV compiling, need the use of a tutor for one to one support, access
the job library, or find company addresses for the type of work you want
or need to improve your work skills.
Located in Central Library this is the focal point for our learning services providing access to tutors, job search support, learning support and a wide range of courses and resources most of which can be borrowed, or accessed from home via the Internet. Services include:
CV facility - for creating & printing CVs and job application letters.
Job Library, Self-Development & Return to Work resources.
Skills for Life - materials to help you improve your English and Maths.
Staffed by qualified professionals it is a direct provider of courses as well as a gateway to all forms of learning and courses from around the UK. These twin strengths mean that the service is ideally placed to assess your needs, find you the right course, and then support you through that course even if you do all the work at home to help you fill that skills gap.
Learn Direct is a new way of learning on-line in the library or at home with over 500 courses available the web. The Learning Centre on floor 1 of the Central Library will help assess your needs to make sure you get the right course for you. Register you as a Learn Direct user and support you on the course of your choice with one to one tutors, books, talks and other resources. This includes IT if you have no facilities at home. Jobs Insight provide a range of free seminars to help job
seekers.
Held in the Learning Centre (Central Library floor 1), Monday to Friday,
from 9.30 – 10.30 on topics like filling in forms, local government
job applications, interview skills, CV’s and starting a business.
There are ten seminars in all that are repeated every two weeks. For those
intending to go into self-employment or want to improve their work skills
there is a larger range of seminars (over 100) via our “Creative Pathways”
programme and “BiteSize” seminars that are provided Monday to

Business Insight provides a comprehensive support service
for anyone wanting to go into business either as a freelance, self-employed,
or as a small company, full or part time.
We deliver seminars, business fairs, help with your business plan, business
profiles, market research, grant information, help find customers and suppliers
